The KI Institute proudly congratulates its member, Luiz Chamon, an ELLIS-SimTech Independent Junior Research Group Leader, on his appointment as Professeur Monge (tenure-track assistant professor) at the Center for Applied Mathematics (CMAP) of the École Polytechnique de Paris. Starting in January 2025, Luiz will bring his expertise to an institution that has hosted celebrated mathematicians such as Lagrange, Fourier, and Poisson.
At École Polytechnique, Luiz will continue developing his fundamental research into new ways to design intelligent systems and ensure they behave as intended. This research encompasses a variety of topics. Using tools from signal processing and statistical learning, it examines how to extract information from data and the limitations of this process. Using techniques from control, it explores how these limitations affect the decisions and behavior of such systems. Using principles from optimization, it investigates how to overcome these challenges by incorporating different modalities of knowledge and requirements. Luiz's research is at the core of a new learning paradigm with far-reaching applications in science and engineering.
While the KI Institute will greatly miss Luiz and his invaluable expertise, we are excited about his new journey and confident in the remarkable impact he will have at École Polytechnique. We sincerely wish Luiz the best in this new chapter and look forward to continuing collaborations through SimTech, ELLIS, and the KI Institute to advance intelligent systems research.
