Mining Texts and Structures of Academic Graphs

Are you ready to showcase your machine learning skills? Look no further than the KDD Challenge, hosted annually by KDD (Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining), premier conference on machine learning. This year, we're thrilled to announce the "Open Academic Graph Challenge" - an opportunity to advance academic graph mining and address the growing complexity of scientific literature.

The challenge features three realistic and demanding datasets, designed to push the boundaries of Mining Texts and Structures of Academic Graphs. From graph construction to knowledge acquisition and beyond, participants will engage in tasks covering various aspects of the academic graph mining life cycle.

The challenge comprises baselines that highlight the difficulties faced by advanced algorithms like large language models (LLMs) in addressing key challenges, such as identifying the most important references that significantly influenced a paper in terms of ideas or methods.

The competition starts on March 15th, with team creation open until May 31st. On June 1st, the test data will be released, giving participants five days to submit their results. The announcement of the winners is scheduled for June 15th, with prizes ranging up to $4,500.

The efforts of composing the challenge have been wonderfully coordinated by Dr. Fanjin Zhang from Tsinghua University with advice from Prof. Dr. Jie Tang, Professor of Computer Science at Tsinghua University, and Prof. Dr. Steffen Staab, head of the University of Stuttgart’s AI Institute.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to make a difference and propel the field of machine learning forward. Join us for the Open Academic Graph Challenge at KDD-2024!
