We want to congratulate (Dr.) Akram Sadat Hosseini for her successful PhD Defense.
Akram’s research advances our understanding of how emotions are expressed and interpreted in written language. She has developed computational methods that more accurately and contextually capture emotional nuance, ranging from how individual words shift meaning across different situations to how these signals contribute to sentence-level emotion detection.
Her work also tackles a significant question in modern Web Science: how emotions contribute to the spreading of misinformation online. Focusing on the intersection of emotion analysis and social media dynamics, she investigates how emotional framing influences the dissemination of both false and true claims. Her findings show that emotions play a decisive role in how people engage with, react to, and share information.
We wish Akram all the best in her next scientific chapter, as she continues to advance the field of Natural Language Processing and Social Web Science.
